Currently the Madia Vale practice is undergoing refurbishment and I am happy to say it is looking very good. I have a picture taken yesterday of the outside!

I would like to take this opportunity to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

Mr Botox

I have always thought of myself as too young for Botox, however with all this cold weather and waiting for London Underground has got me starting to notice a few lines and wrinkles. Thankfully we have our own in house specialist Dr Jake Sloane who can provide a range of treatments. He works at both our Northwood and Maida Vale branches, you can call him on 07956 129103 or visit his website www.drjakesloane.co.uk

Orthodontic Open Evening

On the 10th of December we held an orthodontic open evening where members of the public were invited to come and meet our in house orthodontist Dr Saba Quershi. There was lots of interest and several patients decided to have Invisalign which is an excellent clear brace system. It moves the teeth into the correct position and is removable for eating and cleaning. The evening was very successful and it just goes to show how much dentistry has moved on from the metal braces I wore as a child!

I read an interesting article today about provision of a vaccine against periodontal disease. vaccination for periodontal disease

I wonder what the uptake of something like this would be for a disease which is not fatal, but does lead to early tooth loss and has been linked to low birth weight babies and cardio-vascular problems. I still have not had a swine flu vaccine yet!

On Monday we begin to redecorate the practice for the second time in 5 years. It is amazing how fast the times goes. The practice should look very good for the new year. It was excellent seeing the practice appear in OK magazine and I think lots of the patients enjoyed reading about it.

Dental Sedation

I recently saw a very nervous patient who needed some teeth extracted but was very frightened. I suggested to him that dental sedation was an excellent way of having treatment and not remembering it afterwards! We use a sedative called Midazolam which puts the patient in a very relaxed state and with memory loss of the procedure. When I spoke to the patient the following day he could not remember having any treatment the only way he knew he had been to the dentist was the fact his painful teeth were no longer there!

Many of my patients often ask me if they should change their old amalgam fillings for new tooth coloured fillings due to the fear of mercury. I read this interesting article today which offers some evidence about old fillings. old amaglams

As modern dentists we believe in what is called evidence based dentistry and this helps us to make decisions based on clincial studies rather than peoples opinions. Studies like this one on amalgams helps people to make up their own minds on what sort of treatment they should have. old amalgams
